GENERAL QUESTIONS
The COLab is open to all registered members regardless of their place of residence, age or professional status. Registration is possible at colab-cottbus.de and is currently free of charge. Persons under 18 years of age may only visit COLab when accompanied by an adult.
Book an appointment per e-mail at colab@b-tu.de with the subject 3D PRINTING. Describe your project in short sentences (deadline, size, material, purpose/goal):
Attach a sketch or file of your project and we will send you an appointment proposal.
Starting March, the 3D printer usage costs:
Everything has to be paid on site with cash. (In the section "preparation", you'll find enough necessary information about the material.)
Bring your file on a USB stick. If you want to prepare data at home, please export it them into the STL format. If you want to check if the file is printable without problems, you can download a free slicer (e.g. Prusa Slicer or Cura Slicer). If you have any questions, feel free to send them at colab@b-tu.de with the subject 3D DRUCK. In case you need more filament than we can provide, you'll have to bring your own. We will be happy to help you make the right choice of filament.
Our technical support staff is available to answer questions or if there are any problems. Otherwise, the rule is: helping you help yourself.
No. Please make an appointment for that as well. The machines in COLab are not to be operated without permission.
Ihr habt zwei Arten von 3D-Druckern zur Verfügung, woher weiß ich, welcher für meinen Zweck geeignet ist?
You have two kinds of 3D printers available, how do I know which one suits my purpose?
Depends on the purpose:
VORBEREITUNG
Our Prusa 3D printers require a filament with a diameter of 1.75mm and the Ultimaker a filament with a 2.85mm diameter. By default, we print with PLA, but depending on the field of use, another material can be used. Filaments can be purchased in many online stores in sizes from 250g to 1kg for about 20-30€ per kg.
Yes, please, bring your own filament.
For all Prusa FDM printers (print space: 25 x 21 x 21 cm) we accept filament with a diameter of 1.75mm from the following manufacturers:
For all Ultimaker FDM printers (print space 33 x 24 x 30 cm) we accept filament with a diameter of 2.85mm from the following manufacturers:
Other manufacturers are acceptedonly upon prior consultation. During our courses, our filament is available free of charge.
We use all common slicer programs for slicing, e.g. Prusa Slicer and Cura.
SPEZIELLE TECHNISCHE FRAGEN
With a stable frame, i.e. the torque is applied to the hand via a handle.
Generally speaking, yes. We'll be glad to print a few holds and try them out - but any use is at your own risk. In case you have similar ideas, visit our online 3D printing sessions or send an email at colab@b-tu.de with the subject 3D-DRUCK.
The PLA filament is perfect for architectural models printed in 3D. The material has to be brought on your own. For the Prusa we need a filament with a diameter of 1.75mm. We will be happy to help you make the right choice of filament.
For both supported and unsupported walls, good printing results are produced with a minimum wall thickness of 1.2 mm (correspondingly thicker for larger objects). The walls can be designed in advance with a thickness of 1.2 mm, or adjusted at the appropriate scale. In Rhino (Rhinoceros 3D) thicker walls and planes can be created with the function "Extrude Surface". More info here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLcsWsq854M&t=2s&ab_channel=DanielEisinger
If you want to check if the file is printable without problems, you can download and install a free slicer (e.g. Prusa Slicer: select Original Prusa i3 MK3S+ with 0.4 mm nozzle in the configuration wizard). We can also check the files in advance if you send them to us in stl format by e-mail to colab@b-tu.de with the subject 3D PRINT. In special cases, the wall thickness can be somewhat thinner in consultation with us.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please send us a message: colab@b-tu.de.
